2030 Population

By the year 2030, the world’s population is projected to reach approximately 8.5 billion people, continuing the steady growth seen in recent decades. Asia will remain the most populous continent, home to over 60% of the global population, with China and India alone comprising more than 2.7 billion people—though India is expected to surpass China as the world’s most populous country. Africa’s population will see the fastest growth, reaching nearly 1.7 billion, driven by high birth rates in countries like Nigeria, Ethiopia, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Europe’s population, in contrast, is expected to decline slightly or remain stable at around 700 million, due to low fertility rates and aging demographics, while Latin America and the Caribbean will grow modestly to about 700 million. North America’s population, led by the United States and Mexico, will approach 400 million, and Oceania, including Australia and the Pacific Islands, will see gradual increases to nearly 50 million. Urbanization will accelerate globally, with over 60% of people living in cities, and megacities in Asia and Africa expanding rapidly.
