Turkey Population

Turkey’s population has experienced significant growth over the past century, rising from approximately 13 million in 1927 to over 85 million by 2023. This increase has been driven by high birth rates in the mid-20th century, improvements in healthcare, and urbanization, with large numbers of people moving from rural areas to cities such as Istanbul, Ankara, and Izmir. However, in recent years, Turkey’s population growth rate has slowed due to declining fertility rates, which have fallen below the replacement level. Despite this slowdown, Turkey remains one of the most populous countries in the region and continues to experience demographic shifts, including a growing proportion of young people and increasing urbanization.
