Côte d'Ivoire Population

Côte d'Ivoire has experienced significant population growth over the past several decades. In 1960, at the time of independence, the country’s population was around 3.7 million. Since then, it has grown rapidly, reaching approximately 29 million by 2023. This increase is driven by a combination of high birth rates, declining mortality rates, and substantial immigration, particularly from neighboring West African countries. Urbanization has also accelerated, with major cities like Abidjan expanding quickly as people move from rural areas in search of economic opportunities. The youthful demographic structure, with a large proportion of the population under the age of 25, suggests that Côte d'Ivoire’s population will continue to grow in the coming decades, presenting both opportunities and challenges for development and resource management.
