Ghana Population

Ghana has experienced significant population growth over the past several decades. In the early 1960s, the country’s population was around 6.7 million, but by 2024, it has risen to over 34 million people. This growth has been driven by a combination of high birth rates, declining mortality rates, and improvements in healthcare and living standards. Ghana’s population is relatively young, with a median age of about 21 years, which contributes to a high dependency ratio and places pressure on resources such as education, healthcare, and employment. Urbanization is also accelerating, with more Ghanaians moving to cities like Accra and Kumasi in search of better opportunities. As a result, managing population growth has become a key focus for policymakers aiming to ensure sustainable development and improved quality of life for all citizens.
