Samoa Population

Samoa, an island nation in the South Pacific, has experienced moderate population growth over the past several decades. According to United Nations estimates, Samoa’s population was approximately 195,000 in 2023, up from around 160,000 in the early 1990s. The country’s annual population growth rate has slowed in recent years, averaging about 0.5% to 0.7% per year, due in part to low birth rates and significant emigration, particularly to New Zealand, Australia, and the United States. Despite this relatively slow growth, Samoa’s population remains youthful, with a median age of around 22 years, though the effects of outward migration and urbanization are shaping demographic trends and presenting challenges for sustainable development.
