Barbados has experienced relatively slow population growth over the past several decades. With a current population estimated at around 280,000 people as of 2024, the island nation’s growth rate has remained low, averaging less than 0.2% annually in recent years. This modest increase is largely due to low birth rates and significant emigration, as many Barbadians move abroad in search of better economic opportunities. The population is also aging, with a gradually increasing median age, which poses challenges for the country’s labor force and social services. Despite these trends, Barbados remains one of the most densely populated countries in the Caribbean, with much of its population concentrated in urban and coastal areas, particularly around the capital, Bridgetown.
