United States Population

The population of the United States has experienced steady growth over the past centuries, evolving from about 4 million people in 1790 to over 334 million as of 2024. This growth has been driven by a combination of natural increase (births minus deaths) and significant waves of immigration from around the world. While the 20th century saw rapid population expansion, especially during the post-World War II "baby boom," recent decades have witnessed a slowdown in growth rates due to declining birth rates and changing immigration patterns. Despite this deceleration, the United States remains the third most populous country globally, with its population characterized by increasing diversity and ongoing urbanization.
