Niger Population

Niger has experienced rapid population growth over the past few decades, making it one of the fastest-growing countries in the world. As of 2024, Niger’s population is estimated to exceed 27 million, a dramatic increase from around 10 million in 1990. This surge is primarily driven by one of the highest fertility rates globally, averaging over six children per woman. Despite high infant mortality rates and challenges such as limited access to healthcare and education, the population continues to expand rapidly. This growth presents significant challenges for Niger, particularly in terms of providing adequate resources, infrastructure, and employment opportunities for its youthful population, as more than half of Nigeriens are under the age of 15.
