Azerbaijan Population

Azerbaijan has experienced steady population growth over the past several decades. In the early 1990s, following the collapse of the Soviet Union, the country’s population was around 7 million. Since then, Azerbaijan’s population has grown to approximately 10.1 million as of 2024, according to the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan. This growth has been driven by a combination of natural increase—birth rates consistently outpacing death rates—and, to a lesser extent, migration patterns influenced by regional conflicts and economic opportunities. The population growth has been most pronounced in urban areas, particularly in the capital city, Baku, reflecting ongoing urbanization trends. Despite this growth, Azerbaijan faces demographic challenges such as an aging population and regional disparities in population density.
