In 2024, the world’s population is estimated to be approximately 8.1 billion people. Asia remains the most populous continent, home to around 60% of the global population, with China (about 1.4 billion) and India (over 1.4 billion) as the two most populous countries—India having recently surpassed China. Africa continues to experience the fastest population growth, with over 1.4 billion inhabitants, particularly in countries like Nigeria and Ethiopia. Europe’s population is relatively stable or slightly declining, standing at about 750 million, while Latin America and the Caribbean account for roughly 660 million people. North America, led by the United States (over 340 million), has a population of about 600 million, and Oceania, including Australia, is the least populous continent with around 44 million people. Regional population trends highlight rapid urbanization in Asia and Africa, aging populations in Europe and East Asia, and varying growth rates influenced by migration, fertility, and economic development.
