In 2023, the world’s population reached approximately 8 billion people, marking a significant milestone in global demographic trends. Asia remained the most populous continent, home to over 4.7 billion people, with China and India as the two most populous countries—each with populations exceeding 1.4 billion, although India was projected to surpass China during the year. Africa continued to experience rapid population growth, reaching about 1.4 billion people, with Nigeria as its most populous country. Europe’s population stood at around 750 million, while Latin America and the Caribbean had roughly 660 million inhabitants. North America, including the United States (with about 340 million people) and Canada, accounted for over 370 million people. Oceania, dominated by Australia and Papua New Guinea, had a much smaller population of approximately 45 million. These figures reflect ongoing demographic shifts, including urbanization, aging populations in developed regions, and youthful, growing populations in parts of Africa and South Asia.
