1993 Population

In 1993, the world’s population was estimated at around 5.5 billion people. Asia was by far the most populous continent, home to over 3.2 billion people, with China (approximately 1.18 billion) and India (about 900 million) as the two most populous countries globally. Africa’s population was around 700 million, with Nigeria and Egypt as its largest countries by population. Europe had roughly 730 million inhabitants, led by Russia and Germany. The Americas accounted for about 780 million people, with the United States (around 258 million) and Brazil (about 155 million) as the leading countries in North and South America, respectively. Oceania, including Australia, had a much smaller share, with about 28 million people. This distribution reflected ongoing demographic trends, such as rapid growth in Asia and Africa and slower growth or stabilization in Europe and North America.
