In 1991, the world population was approximately 5.4 billion people, reflecting steady growth from previous decades. Asia was the most populous continent, home to over 3 billion people, with China and India alone accounting for more than 1.1 billion and 850 million, respectively. Africa's population was around 630 million, while Europe had about 720 million inhabitants, with Russia, Germany, and the United Kingdom among its most populous countries. North America’s population was roughly 435 million, dominated by the United States with about 250 million people. Latin America and the Caribbean together had close to 440 million residents, with Brazil and Mexico as the largest countries in the region. Oceania, including Australia and the Pacific Islands, had a much smaller share, with around 27 million people. These demographic patterns highlighted significant regional differences, with rapid growth in Asia and Africa compared to slower increases in Europe and North America.
