Guinea Rate of Natural Increase

The rate of natural increase (RNI) in Guinea, which measures the difference between birth and death rates (excluding migration), is relatively high, reflecting the country’s youthful population and elevated fertility rates. As of recent estimates, Guinea’s RNI stands at approximately 2.6% per year. When compared to its neighbors, Guinea’s RNI is similar to Sierra Leone (about 2.3%) and Côte d’Ivoire (2.2%), but somewhat lower than Mali (2.8%) and Senegal (2.7%). This indicates that while Guinea shares the high population growth characteristic of West Africa, it is not the fastest-growing in the region. Factors such as variations in fertility, improvements in healthcare, and differences in mortality rates contribute to these contrasts among neighboring countries. Overall, Guinea’s RNI underscores ongoing demographic momentum, but it is situated in the middle range compared to its immediate neighbors.
