Oranges, one of the world’s most popular citrus fruits, are primarily farmed in countries with warm, subtropical climates. Brazil leads global orange production, particularly in the state of São Paulo, which supplies much of the world’s orange juice. The United States, especially Florida and California, is another major producer, followed by countries like China, India, and Mexico. The history of orange cultivation traces back to ancient Southeast Asia, particularly in southern China and northeastern India, where wild citrus species were first domesticated. Oranges spread westward along trade routes, reaching the Mediterranean region by the 10th century through Arab traders. Spanish explorers later introduced oranges to the Americas in the 16th century, where the fruit thrived and became a significant agricultural commodity. Today, modern orange farming combines traditional horticultural knowledge with advanced irrigation, pest management, and breeding techniques to meet global demand.
