Cauliflowers and broccoli, both members of the Brassica oleracea species, have a rich agricultural history that traces back to the Mediterranean region. Broccoli is believed to have been developed from wild cabbage in Italy more than 2,000 years ago, while cauliflower was cultivated in the eastern Mediterranean and Asia Minor, gaining popularity in Europe during the 16th century. Today, China dominates global production of both cauliflower and broccoli, accounting for more than half of the world’s output, followed by India, which also produces significant quantities. Other leading producers include the United States, Spain, Mexico, and Italy. These countries benefit from favorable climates, advanced agricultural techniques, and strong domestic and export markets, making them central to the global supply of these nutritious vegetables.
