Top Pacific Seabob Fishing Countries

The Pacific seabob (Xiphopenaeus kroyeri) is a small, fast-growing shrimp species found predominantly in the warm, shallow coastal waters of the western Atlantic and eastern Pacific Oceans. Renowned for its delicate flavor and economic value, the seabob supports a significant commercial fishery, particularly in countries such as Suriname, Guyana, and Brazil along the Atlantic coast of South America. While the term "Pacific seabob" is sometimes used, most of the global catch is actually concentrated in the western Atlantic, with Suriname and Guyana being the top producers, where the species forms the backbone of their shrimp export industries. In these countries, seabob fisheries are managed through quotas, seasonal closures, and gear restrictions to ensure sustainability, and Suriname’s seabob fishery has even achieved Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for responsible management. Although the Pacific coast does have related shrimp fisheries, the bulk of seabob production and industry prominence remains with these Atlantic South American nations.
