Top Black Carp Fishing Countries

The black carp (Mylopharyngodon piceus) is a large freshwater fish native to East Asia, particularly China, where it inhabits rivers and lakes. Known for its elongated body and dark coloration, the black carp primarily feeds on mollusks and is valued both as a food fish and for its role in controlling snail populations in aquaculture systems. The top black carp fishing and farming countries are China and Vietnam, with China being by far the largest producer due to its extensive aquaculture industry. Black carp are farmed in large quantities in China, where they are a staple in local cuisine and an important export product. Smaller-scale production also occurs in other Southeast Asian countries such as Thailand, but China dominates both wild harvest and aquaculture production, making it the global leader in black carp fisheries.
