The Smallnose Fanskate (*Sympterygia bonapartii*) is a species of skate found in the southwestern Atlantic, primarily off the coasts of Argentina, Uruguay, and southern Brazil. Characterized by its small, pointed snout and broad pectoral fins, this demersal fish inhabits shallow coastal waters and is often caught as bycatch in bottom trawl fisheries. Argentina is the leading country in the commercial harvest of Smallnose Fanskate, with significant landings also reported in Uruguay and, to a lesser extent, Brazil. The species is primarily targeted for local consumption and export, with its meat sold fresh or processed. Overfishing and habitat degradation have raised concerns about population declines, prompting calls for improved management and conservation measures in the region's fishing industry.
