Vietnam has experienced significant population growth over the past several decades. In 1975, following the end of the Vietnam War, the country’s population was around 48 million. Since then, it has more than doubled, reaching approximately 100 million by 2023, making Vietnam the 15th most populous country in the world. This growth has been driven by improvements in healthcare, declining mortality rates, and a relatively high birth rate, especially during the late 20th century. However, in recent years, Vietnam’s population growth rate has begun to slow due to urbanization, increased access to education, and family planning initiatives. Despite this slowdown, the country continues to face challenges related to population density, particularly in urban areas such as Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
