Togo Population

Togo has experienced steady population growth over the past several decades. In 1960, the country’s population was around 1.5 million, but by 2022, it had risen to approximately 8.7 million, according to United Nations estimates. This growth is driven by a relatively high fertility rate, which, although gradually declining, remains above the global average. Urbanization has also contributed to population increases in cities like Lomé, the capital. Despite improvements in healthcare and life expectancy, Togo still faces challenges such as limited resources and employment opportunities, which are influenced by its rapidly growing population. Projections suggest that if current trends continue, Togo’s population will continue to rise in the coming decades.
