Oman has experienced significant population growth over the past few decades, driven by both natural increase and a substantial influx of expatriate workers. In the 1970s, Oman's population was under one million, but by 2023 it had grown to approximately 4.7 million people. Much of this growth has occurred since the early 2000s, as the country modernized and diversified its economy, attracting foreign labor, particularly from South Asia. While the native Omani population continues to grow at a moderate rate, expatriates now make up more than 40% of the total population. Government policies in recent years have aimed to balance this growth by encouraging the employment of Omani nationals and managing the number of foreign workers.
