Guam Population

Guam, an unincorporated territory of the United States located in the western Pacific Ocean, has experienced modest population growth over the past several decades. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Guam’s population was approximately 133,000 in 1990 and grew to around 159,000 by 2020. This growth has been influenced by factors such as natural increase (the difference between births and deaths), migration related to the U.S. military presence, and economic opportunities. However, in recent years, the rate of population growth has slowed, with some periods of stagnation or slight decline due to outmigration, particularly among younger residents seeking education and employment elsewhere. The island’s demographic trends continue to shape its social and economic landscape, highlighting the challenges and opportunities of population change in a small, strategically significant Pacific territory.
