Croatia Population

Croatia has experienced significant demographic changes over the past several decades, characterized by slow population growth and, more recently, a steady population decline. After reaching its peak population of around 4.7 million in the early 1990s, Croatia’s population has been decreasing due to a combination of low birth rates, an aging population, and substantial emigration, particularly following its accession to the European Union in 2013. The 2021 census reported a population of approximately 3.9 million, reflecting a loss of nearly 10% over the previous decade. These trends have raised concerns about labor shortages and the long-term sustainability of the country’s social and economic systems.
