Top Quinoa Producing Countries

Quinoa (*Chenopodium quinoa*) is an ancient grain native to the Andean region of South America, where it has been cultivated for more than 5,000 years by indigenous peoples such as the Incas, who regarded it as the "mother of all grains." Traditionally, the top quinoa-producing countries have been Bolivia and Peru, which together account for the majority of the world’s quinoa production, with Ecuador also playing a significant role. In recent decades, global demand for quinoa has surged due to its high nutritional value, prompting its cultivation to spread beyond the Andes to countries such as the United States, Canada, France, and even China. These new regions have adapted quinoa to different climates and soils, further boosting its global presence. Nevertheless, Bolivia and Peru remain the leading exporters, preserving traditional farming methods while also adopting modern agricultural techniques to meet international demand.
