Top Rubyfish Fishing Countries

Rubyfish (Plagiogeneion rubiginosum), also known as longfin sea perch or deep-sea ocean perch, is a deepwater species prized for its firm, white flesh and mild flavor. Found primarily in the temperate and subtropical waters of the southern hemisphere, rubyfish inhabit depths ranging from 100 to over 400 meters, often around seamounts and continental slopes. The top rubyfish fishing countries include New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa, where commercial fleets target this species with bottom trawls and longlines. New Zealand, in particular, has developed a significant fishery for rubyfish, exporting much of its catch to international markets. Australia also harvests rubyfish, mainly off its southern coasts, while South Africa’s deepwater trawl fleet includes rubyfish among its valuable bycatch. Sustainable management practices and quotas are increasingly emphasized in these countries to ensure the long-term viability of rubyfish stocks.
