The Ocellated Wedge Sole (*Dicologlossa hexophthalma*) is a small, bottom-dwelling flatfish found primarily along the eastern Atlantic coast of Africa, from Morocco to Angola, and in parts of the Mediterranean Sea. Recognized by its elongated body and distinctive eye-like spots (ocelli) on its dorsal side, this species is valued for its delicate flesh and forms an important part of local fisheries. The top countries engaged in harvesting the Ocellated Wedge Sole are Morocco, Mauritania, and Senegal, where artisanal and small-scale commercial fisheries target this species using trawls and gillnets. These countries export a portion of their catch, but much of it is consumed domestically, contributing significantly to local economies and food security. The fishing industry for this species is closely monitored to prevent overexploitation, given its limited distribution and the vulnerability of flatfish to intensive fishing practices.
