The Juan Fernandez rock lobster (*Jasus frontalis*) is a spiny lobster species native to the waters surrounding the Juan Fernandez and Desventuradas Islands off the coast of Chile. Known for its robust size and prized for its delicate, flavorful meat, this lobster has been a cornerstone of local artisanal fisheries for centuries. Chile is by far the top—and essentially the only—country harvesting the Juan Fernandez rock lobster, as the species is endemic to its exclusive economic zone. The fishery is small-scale but economically vital to the island communities, with strict management and quota systems in place to ensure sustainability. The catch is primarily exported to international markets, especially Asia, where demand for premium lobster is high.
