Top Daisy Midshipman Fishing Countries

The Daisy Midshipman (Porichthys notatus) is a small, bioluminescent marine fish found primarily along the Pacific coast of North America, from Alaska to Baja California. Recognizable by its photophores that glow in the dark, the Daisy Midshipman inhabits shallow coastal waters, often burying itself in sandy or muddy substrates. While not a major target of large-scale commercial fisheries, this species is sometimes caught as bycatch in trawl and bottom fishing operations, particularly in the United States and Mexico. The United States, especially the states of California, Oregon, and Washington, is the primary country where Daisy Midshipman are incidentally harvested, mainly during shrimp and groundfish trawling. Mexico also records some incidental catch along its Pacific coastline. However, the species has limited direct economic importance, with most of the catch used as bait or discarded, rather than being part of a dedicated fishery.
