Top Atlantic Searobins Fishing Countries

The Atlantic searobin (family Triglidae, genus Prionotus) is a bottom-dwelling fish found along the western Atlantic, from Canada to Argentina, recognized for its armored, spiny head and wing-like pectoral fins. While not a primary commercial target, Atlantic searobins are commonly caught as bycatch in trawl and bottom-fishing operations. The top countries harvesting Atlantic searobins are the United States, particularly along the Atlantic coast and in the Gulf of Mexico, and to a lesser extent Canada and Brazil. In the U.S., searobins are often landed incidentally in mixed-species fisheries targeting flounder, squid, or other demersal species. Although their commercial value is modest, searobins are increasingly appreciated for their mild, white flesh and are sometimes used in fish stews or as bait. The fishing industry for this species remains small-scale, with most catches reported in local markets or used for non-human consumption.
