Sheep were one of the first domesticated animals, descending from wild ancestors in Europe and Asia. The Chinese are the most prolific sheperds with almost 195 million head of sheep, followed by Australia (72 million), India (63 million), Iran (45 million), Nigeria (41 million), and Sudan (40 million).
