Top Round Ray Fishing Countries

The top round ray (*Taeniurops meyeni*), also known as the black-blotched stingray, is a large, disc-shaped ray found throughout the Indo-Pacific, particularly in coastal and reef-associated habitats. This species is targeted and incidentally caught in artisanal and commercial fisheries, mainly for its meat, skin, and cartilage. The primary countries engaged in harvesting the top round ray include Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, and several Southeast Asian nations, where rays are commonly landed as part of mixed-species fisheries using trawls, gillnets, and longlines. In these countries, rays contribute to local food security and are traded in domestic and regional markets, although overfishing and habitat degradation have raised conservation concerns for the species.
