Top Montagus Seasnail Fishing Countries

The Montagu's seasnail (Liparis montagui) is a small, bottom-dwelling fish found in cold, northern waters of the North Atlantic, particularly around the coasts of northern Europe. Characterized by its soft, scaleless body and suction disc, it inhabits rocky and sandy substrates from the intertidal zone down to about 100 meters. While not a major commercial target, Montagu's seasnail is sometimes caught as bycatch in trawl and dredge fisheries, especially in countries with active demersal fishing industries such as the United Kingdom, Norway, and Iceland. These nations, with their extensive North Atlantic coastlines and developed fishing fleets, are the primary harvesters of this species, though landings are generally small and the fish is not widely marketed for human consumption. Instead, most catches are incidental, and the species is of minor economic importance compared to more commercially valuable groundfish.
