Top Latchet Sharpbeak Gurnard Fishing Countries

The Top Latchet, also known as the Sharpbeak Gurnard (*Lepidotrigla argus*), is a demersal fish species found primarily in the coastal waters of the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around Australia and New Zealand. Recognizable by its distinctive sharp snout and brightly colored pectoral fins, the Top Latchet inhabits sandy or muddy bottoms at moderate depths. The commercial fishing industry for this species is relatively small compared to other gurnards, but it is harvested as part of mixed trawl fisheries. Australia is the leading country in the capture of Top Latchet, especially in southern states such as Victoria and Tasmania, where it is often caught alongside other bottom-dwelling species. New Zealand also records some landings of this species, though on a smaller scale. The fish is valued locally for its firm, white flesh and is sold fresh in regional markets, with limited export due to its niche appeal.
