Top Fourhorn Sculpin Fishing Countries

The fourhorn sculpin (*Myoxocephalus quadricornis*) is a cold-water, benthic fish species found in Arctic and subarctic coastal waters, estuaries, and rivers across the Northern Hemisphere. Recognized by its distinctive four horn-like spines on the head, this sculpin is valued primarily as a bycatch species rather than a targeted commercial fish. The top countries harvesting the fourhorn sculpin are Russia, Norway, Canada, and Greenland, where it is most commonly caught in the Barents Sea, the North Atlantic, and Arctic coastal fisheries. In these countries, the fourhorn sculpin is often caught incidentally in trawl and gillnet fisheries targeting cod, haddock, and other demersal species. While not a major commercial species, it plays an ecological role as both predator and prey in northern marine ecosystems, and in some regions, it is used locally as bait or for subsistence purposes.
