Top Canary Rockfish Fishing Countries

The Canary Rockfish (*Sebastes pinniger*) is a brightly colored, orange-yellow fish native to the Pacific coast of North America, particularly abundant from southern California to southeast Alaska. Known for its longevity and slow growth, this species inhabits rocky reefs and continental shelf waters. The primary countries involved in the harvest of Canary Rockfish are the United States and Canada, with the U.S. (especially the states of California, Oregon, and Washington) being the most significant contributor due to its extensive Pacific coastline and well-developed commercial and recreational groundfish fisheries. Canada, particularly the province of British Columbia, also supports a notable Canary Rockfish fishery. Both countries have implemented strict management measures, such as catch limits and habitat protections, to rebuild and sustain populations after historical overfishing led to severe declines in the late 20th century. Today, these efforts have contributed to the recovery of the species, and Canary Rockfish remains an important component of the North American groundfish industry.
