Angel Skin Coral is not a fish, but rather a precious variety of pink to pale pink coral (scientifically known as *Corallium secundum*) highly valued in jewelry making. It is harvested primarily from deep waters in the Pacific Ocean, especially around Japan and Taiwan, as well as parts of the Philippines and the Mediterranean Sea. The coral is collected by specialized divers or dredging operations, with Japan historically being the world’s leading harvester and exporter of high-quality angel skin coral. Due to overharvesting and environmental concerns, strict regulations and quotas now govern the coral fishing industry in these countries to ensure sustainability and protect coral reef ecosystems. As a result, legal harvesting is limited, and Japan and Taiwan remain the top producers, with Italy also being a significant player in processing and trading coral for luxury markets.
